Meet some of the people we support.

Lianne

Since Lianne was young, her Mum and Dad say she has been dreaming of going on a holiday to America.  As she approached her 40’s this was being planned and she knew exactly where she wanted to visit.

Los Angeles and San Francisco were the destinations and arrangements were made. The staff at Cartref Ni and A Star supported Lianne to organise the trip and Mum and Dad were extremely glad that this was eventually happening for Lianne.

Unfortunately, in 2020 the Covid pandemic hit and Lianne had to put her plans on hold. Not to be deterred, Lianne chose to wait until restrictions were lifted and has now been on her dream holiday.

Passport, Visa, Summer Clothes and Dollars in hand Lianne was ready for Take Off when this photo was taken.  Lianne had a fantastic time seeing so much and having a great time with the support of Danielle and Tracy on her holiday of a lifetime!

Martin

Martin has been supported by Cartref Ni for many years and his weekly schedule is very important to him. His special places to visit would include the Horse and Carriage, Busy Buddies, Chester Zoo, Pedal Power and the Cinema.

Unfortunately, with the arrival of Covid came many changes for Martin and his routine was severely disrupted.  Whilst some services gradually resumed, staff explored alternative options and day placements including a local group – Dancing with Dementia.

Even though Martin is not living with dementia, the group were so welcoming and the experience gives him the opportunity to listen to music, dance as well as positively engage with new people. He is also due to have Taster Sessions at Hwb Cyfle (Hft).

It is credit to Martin and his support staff how he dealt with these challenging times and how he has developed new experiences as the community opens up again.

Dyfan

Dyfan started to be supported by Cartref Ni in April 2022 and has settled really well, enjoying living more independently.

Dyfan really enjoys concerts (he has seen Bon Jovi), watching football and regularly goes to watch his favourite team, Wrexham FC. He also goes to Eirianfa as he knows a few people there and enjoys bowling, reading and spending time with friends.

Staff at Cartref Ni have helped Dyfan with budgeting and support him to manage his bills.

Rhys

Rhys, from Llandudno, decided to take on the ‘70k Your Way Challenge in March’ to raise funds to support children and families across Wales living with cerebral palsy.
At the start of March, Rhys and his support workers set themselves a challenge of completing 70km of activity across 31 days. He walked 143.5 Km with his team of support workers over a period of a month and raised £1127.

Rhys has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, which restricts him to a wheelchair however he doesn’t let his disability hold him back. He volunteers as a steward at Venue Cymru and is very passionate about Rugby, especially his local club Llandudno Rugby Club.

He hopes that his fundraising and commitment to conquer his 70k Your Way Challenge will inspire other children and adults across Wales living with cerebral palsy to chase their dreams and not be afraid to challenge themselves.
“Cerebral palsy doesn’t define you; you can do whatever you aspire to do, even live in your own home and have a job, but most of all, be happy.”

Rhys was also recently asked to be the best man at a wedding of two friends that he helped to get together!

Family Testimonial

“I would also like to say how grateful we are to all the staff (past and present) at Cartref Ni for all the care and support they gave my brother. It is truly deserving that your staff are nominated and win awards in the Welsh Care Awards and that their dedication and hard work is recognised. Your staff were absolutely wonderful and did go above and beyond at times.”
