Helen’s story

I have been employed by Cartref Ni for many years as a support worker. During my time working for the company I have gained valuable experience supporting vulnerable adults, from supporting their everyday personal needs to promoting and teaching new skills. Watching these individuals flourish and achieve their goals some of which include skiing, go-karting and working in the community, makes me extremely proud and being part of an ever growing successful company is rewarding.

I have personally achieved goals that I never thought I could do.  Recently I completed the Step Up to Management Programme. This was a 12 month University course which I thoroughly enjoyed once I had jumped the initial hurdle of doubt.  I gained valuable learning experiences and my confidence grew as a person. I refreshed skills that I once had and thought I had lost and met some fantastic people along the way.

I have since been successful in the gaining the temporary Assistant Managers role in which I hope to gain an insight to how the operational side of the company is managed and learn more skills along the way.
